Experience Fiji   -
Bula (hello)
By Rebecca Davis & Michael Porritt

Fiji truly is a destination that offers an experience for everyone!

Adventure, shopping, culture, water sports, and relaxation - it’s all at your doorstep!

Fiji offers warm weather all year round and pristine tropical waters for those who enjoy snorkelling and diving! The most popular time to visit is late April to October during the drier months.

Getting there - Just 3½ hours from Australia awaits your tropical getaway! All major airlines service Fiji and don’t forget Air Pacific, Fiji’s national airline, for some great offers.

P&O and Royal Caribbean also offer cruise itineraries that will give you a taste of Fiji and other nearby Pacific Islands.

Your home away from home

Fiji is very popular with tourists from both Australia and New Zealand, so there are a multitude of accommodation options. Choose from 5 star luxury in the heart of Denarau, or go for something with a little more soul, move out of the tourist hub and venture to the islands and coastal areas for a more authentic and tranquil experience.
Sonaisali Island Resort is a great example and is only 20 mins away from Nadi International Airport.
From the moment you arrive, Sonaisali Island really is, Your Island!

“Welcome home” was the greeting on arrival from the lovely staff of Sonaisali. It was as though we had met up with old friends.

Apart from the wonderful staff, the other highlights of Sonaisali include impeccable gardens, large open plan tropical beachfront Bure’s, a gorgeous swimming pool with fantastic sunsets and the vast array of activities on offer. Sonaisali is a fantastic ‘home away from home’ for families and travellers wanting a holiday with a true Fijian flavour.

Several evenings per week you will have the privilege of experiencing performances by local village groups, singing and dancing in authentic Fijian dress. By day, this spacious resort leaves you feeling like you might be the only ones there, a truly tranquil location.

Sonaisali is an ideal base from which you can explore both cultural and adventure activities on the mainland or be transported into the underwater world of the pristine Fijian reefs surrounding ‘Viti Levu’ and it’s 333 neighbouring islands.

Fiji Travel Tips

Capital          Suva
Airports         Suva, Nadi (pronounced, Nandi)
Currency        Fijian dollar
Language       Respect the locals by using a few basic greetings:
Bula (bull-ah)  Hello
Vinaka (vin-ah-ka) Thank you
Mothe (moth-ay)    Goodbye
Driving           Drive on the left side. Slow when passing through villages. Be aware of cattle and other
animals which may be on the roads.
Customs         Greet locals with a friendly Bula! It’s not hard, Fijians are so lovely!

It is considered offensive to touch anyone outside your family on the head or shoulders.

If visiting a village, remove your hat. Women should wear a sarong. Take gifts such as books, pencils, sweets, clothing or make a monetary donation. Fiji is still a developing nation and villagers will appreciate your generosity.(travel writer Rebecca Davis)
