TANK Bathhouse and Day Spa
We’ve enjoyed some top-level spa and massage treatments in many countries around the world, and the Tank Riviera Bathhouse and Day Spa on the Sunshine Coast in Australia ranks among the best …. especially for overall experience.
It’s a complete experience package. Not only is Tank Riviera a day club with a unique bathhouse, day spa and comprehensive massage treatments. Located on the banks of the Mooloolaba River, it combines those wellness and relaxation experiences with a beautiful waterfront restaurant, bar and exclusive river cruises to provide a day to remember.
Some spas have other services as part of a multi-purpose complex - such as Mission Hills, where it is part of a golf resort - but this was the first time we’d come across this revolutionary concept as part of a dedicated bathhouse and day spa.

The day spa is named TANK because, after being blown away by the beauty of the complex on arrival, the first thing that grabs the attention are the six tiled concept tanks set in a beautiful tropical garden environment.
Guests can choose from any or all of the five botanical-infused hot tubs – peppermint set at the ambient temperature, lavender at 34 degrees, lemon at 36, ginseng at 38 and magnesium at 39 degrees. Then , to fully stimulate the senses, one can jump into the cold plunge pool …. if you choose.
We selected the full treatment option, beginning with four-course champagne gourmet lunch. We decided to combine the seafood and carnivore tapas-style options and relaxed for more than an hour.
We were not sure whether it was the subtle ambience and atmosphere of the environment, but it was an uplifting experience and all of our conversations were light-hearted and fun-filled - we found ourselves planning our next holiday rather than reminding each of the chores still to be done at home!
The food was divine, and we went out of our way to compliment the chef.

We showered and changed in the modern, fresh locker area and, wanting to ensure we had the full experience we tried them all the hot tubs, continuing to sip our champagne. To be totally honest, we actually spent about half our time in the warmest magnesium tub, but enjoyed our experience in the others!
We then progressed into the traditional sauna and steam room area, hopefully purging ourselves of the toxins and excesses we accumulated in our daily lives. It certainly helped us relax and feel rejuvenated, so we sneaked another dip in the magnesium pool before showering again and moving upstairs into the treatment area.
Again, the choices here were perfect. While I selected the hour-long full body deep tissue massage, Vi selected the 30-minute facial and 30-minute massage.
We then progressed into the traditional sauna and steam room area, hopefully purging ourselves of the toxins and excesses we accumulated in our daily lives. We were in the twin massage room and our attendants were superb.
I took the medium pressure option because, honestly, I’m a bit of a wuss when it comes to deliberately choosing pain! The pressure was exactly right and the end result was exactly what was required – I felt supple, slightly sore in a couple of places where tight muscles were professionally untwisted, and feeling much more relaxed and energised. Vi had similar reaction and loved the combination. |

We enjoyed our day so much that a few weeks later we returned for the hour-long Saturday champagne river cruise.

We enjoyed a close-up look at Mooloolaba’s multi-million-dollar waterfront properties and the picture-perfect marina area with its restaurants and other attractions.
We spoiled ourselves with a four-course tapas lunch and another hour-long massage. |

Chatting with different staff we found that while the complex is popular with the younger professional set - especially weekends and special celebration events like Valentine’s Day – it is really popular with retirees like ourselves.
While the venue caters for large corporate, birthday and other social celebrations, another extremely popular level of guests are mother-daughter get-aways, where they can have some exclusive together time without interference from kids, partners, pets and other everyday interferences.
These are some of the combined reasons why we both think that Tank Riviera is potentially one of the best spa and massage combinations in the world.
