Beware of Pickpockets
While we were on a Mediterranean Cruise we had a really bad experience with pick pockets.
Being Australian and living in a relatively safe country we didn’t really think too much about it and, although we had heard many stories, we thought that as long as our money was safely in a pocket there would be not a problem.
We were just going back to the ship after having a great day in Pompeii and Sorrento.
We caught the train back to Naples and jumped on a bus to the wharf. It happened literally only minutes from the ship while we were on the bus.
It wasn’t until we got off the bus and was walking back to the ship we noticed that my husband’s money clip had been taken out of his pocket (which was Velcro closed)
By the time we got back onto the ship and reported it less than 30 minutes later the thieves had spend $4000 on our credit card.
We were with Westpac bank and they were fantastic. They reimbursed the total amount.
Visa was also amazing and they had new credit cards for us to pick up within four working days and had them delivered to Venice, which was our next destination.
This is pretty standard in many countries and we have heard some horror stories since then.
You can’t be too careful….
