Egypt
Many people who travel extensively around the world say there possibly could be two different Egypt’s:
• The fascinating and historic ancient Egypt that has ebbed and flowed for over 5,000 years and is regarded to be among the founders of writing, engineering, mathematics and much more, and has the monuments, relics and writing to prove it;
The modern Egypt that in just 100 years has evolved so rapidly that it is now one of the technology capitals of the world and has a political, economical and cultural lifestyle that has undergone remarkable changes.
Egypt is a popular holiday destination for family holidays as well as couples holidays or backpacker holidays, mainly because of it's history and culture. Also the fact that the main tourist attractions in Egypt are unique to this area and include some of the wonders of the world.
Egypt is on the northern end of Africa at the crossroads with Asia and Europe. It is built around the Nile Valley, a very fertile land bordering the river and bounded by the Mediterranean Sea to the north and the Red Sea to the east. The thin area on either side of the Nile was historically where 90% of the population settled.
The types of modern features that attract tourists from around the world include a massive new high-tech Smart Village; the world famous Suez Canal and 1,400 kilometres of subsidiary canals between the Nile and the sea; the spectacular but forbidding Arabian Desert and the surrounding high mountains; and the modern centres reached by more than 35,000 kilometres of roads, railways and canals.

Most travelers are drawn to Ancient Egypt – an ancient civilization that formed around 3,150 BC ruled through a series of kingdoms by pharaohs that continued for 3,000 years. Eventually conquered by the Roman Empire, the history of Egypt was intrinsically linked to the Nile River and the irrigation of the fertile Nile Valley.
The many achievements of the ancient Egyptians include the quarrying, surveying and construction techniques that facilitated the building of monumental pyramids, temples, and obelisks; a system of mathematics; a practical and effective system of medicine; irrigation systems and agricultural production techniques; the first known ships; Egyptian faience (ceramics) and glass technology; new forms of literature, and the earliest known peace treaty.

Ancient Egypt has left a lasting legacy. Its art and architecture were widely copied, and its antiquities carried off to far corners of the world (in fact one of the largest collections is in the British Museum). Its monumental ruins and mystique have continued to inspire the imaginations of writers and travelers (and in recent years film makers) for hundreds of years.
Whether it is the architecture or engineering that fascinates you or maybe you are captivated by the pyramids, sphinx and other reclaimed monuments. It could be a getaway to the desert or the beach that you are seeking….Regardless, Egypt will enthrall you the same as it has captured the imagination of millions before you.
