On the Fringe at the CHAMALEON
STORY BY PAUL HUGHES, 2019
If you are looking for something a bit different to do in Berlin you should check out the latest show at the CHAMELEON Theatre at the Hackesche Hole from Rosenthaler StraBe (StraBe and StraSSE being German words for Street).
While the theatre itself is licensed and had outstanding meals available, we caught a show while in Berlin and shared a couple of tapas plates and a glass of wine each at a small restaurant a few doors away and the calamari straws were among the best I have tasted (and I actually owned a very popular seafood restaurant for five years).

VisitBerlin arranged for us to see "Memories of Fools", a Czech circus/acrobatics show when we had a spare evening and, while it was excellent and fast moving, there is limited benefit describing it further as shows are constantly changing.
This review is more about the theatre itself and the process. The Chamaleon (correct spelling) is a special theatre company founded in the 1920s and designed to promote and maintain many of the fringe artistic and innovative styles of theatre.
The whole atmosphere is brilliant, with small tables and all guests having a great view of the stage and total performance. It’s almost a “friends and family” atmosphere, where many people meet for a great entertaining night out; although there was only the two of us, we still had a great night.

The Chamaleon features all theatre entertainment genres, with particular focus on music, comedy, dance, circus, drama and, during our visit, acrobatics which, although they may not have quite reached the dramatic levels of Cirque de Soleil, it was a reasonably high level and much more connected and intimate with the audience (as my daughter represented Australia in international sports acrobatics, I have some comparison basis).
The theatre features a constantly evolving program of internationally recognised performers and creates a whole vibe or atmosphere that leaves audiences demanding multiple curtain calls with standing ovations.
It's well work a visit - follow our link to learn more and catch up on the upcoming schedule.
