Hop on Hop off Bus, Cologne
We had tickets to the hop on hop off bus which was a great way to get around Cologne. It gave us a clear understanding of where everything was and how to get to different places. I would recommend this as a first stop when you arrive in Cologne.
Buses run around the entire city every 30 minutes so it is a very convenient and economical way to get to most places.
The CityTour.de Koln bus is a big red bus, you can't miss it and it has the top roof rolled back for people to enjoy a better view and usually the sunshine, apart from when it started to rain and the driver stopped under a bridge to pull the cover over.
The bus was comfortable and everyone had headsets and an ongoing commentary of the area, buildings and history of the city.
The information was available in many different languages through the channel that was selected, with stops at the famopus Cathedral, Heumarkt, the Old Town, Rotherberbach, Chlodwigplatz, the Chocolate Museum (where we spent a long time and had a very indulgent lunch), Triangeltower, Lanxess Arena, Odysseum, the Zoo, Elgelstein, Mediapark and Friesenplatz.
It was simple to look at the destination we were visiting, get off at the right stop, then climb aboard again when we were finished.
