The majority of the Whitsunday Islands are designated national parks, so can still be experienced in their purest natural state. There are numerous stunning, secluded beaches and coral reefs teeming with so many different species of sea creatures.
There are also spectacular state forests that are home to hundreds of species of wildlife. Only eight of the 74 islands are inhabited, with some offering spectacular 5 star resorts as well as a range of other accommodation and attractions.

The Great Barrier Reef
The world's largest living structure, the Great Barrier Reef spans more than 1,200 miles, or 2,000 kilometres, of islands and submerged reefs.
Visitors to the Whitsunday Coast either stay at one of the many island resorts or on the mainland at one of the popular towns that have direct access to the islands. Whatever the decision, either would be suitable to explore the Whitsunday region.

People sometimes hesitate to go to the Great Barrier Reef because they don't swim, dive or snorkel so feel that they cannot fully appreciate this amazingly unique part of the world. That is definitely not a problem!
There are multiple ways you can see the wonders of the reef up and close and personal without even getting wet by experiencing a number of submarine viewing options.
Some of the submarines sit just one metre below the surface with large viewing platforms giving a diver's view as you slowly explore the lagoons and coral gardens in air conditioned comfort.
Another option is to explore the reef in a three-person mini-sub. After a 45-minute fast catamaran ride from Cairns, two guestsd and a guide are launched directly off the beach and are quickly exploring the reef and is amazing splendors.

A Day on The Reef
STORY BY JOE AND ALISHA, MARCH 2019
The Whitsunday Island, just off the shores of Airlie Beach, has to be one of the most beautiful mixes of beaches and snorkelling that I've ever witnessed in my whole life.
There are an enormous amount of things to do and in this video we did all of this in only one day!
First we left Airlie Beach to go for a snorkel on the Hook Island Reef in Maureen's Cove, where we experienced the best snorkel of our lives.
After we had the chance to chill on Whitehaven Beach for the afternoon which I can now see why it was ranked as the number two beach in the world. To top it all off, we went for another boat cruise to Long Island to relax and grab some drinks in paradise, thanks to Zigzag tours.
Australia continues to amaze us on how breathtaking the sights can be.
