It is a place of unspoilt beauty, with spectacular views and the friendly, relaxed feeling just invites you to rest for a while, and savour the best regional or international cuisine on offer, with a glass of world class wine. Whatever your indulgence you’re sure to find it in the Yarra Valley.
This is the place that dreams are made of… and where dreams really do come true! Stay for a day, a weekend, a week or a month… or like some that live here, come for a visit and stay for a lifetime.
Yarra Valley - Famous for it's Wineries
Australia is one of the world’s leading wine producers, and it’s not hard to see why. Its huge landmass encompasses virtually every type of climate, and it offers the perfect blend of different soil types to cater to a comprehensive range of different grapes and flavours.
Across the distinct wine producing regions in Australia, Victoria’s Yarra Valley is perhaps the best known. Home to some of the most irresistible wines in the world, the region has been producing for over 150 years and offers visitors a beautiful environment to accompany the wines, which are some of the finest in the world.
Of the many award-winning vineyards and wineries in the region, Coldstream Hills is known for its traditional approach. With almost no mechanisation in its process, they instead choose to grow, pick, ferment and bottle all their Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cab Sav and Merlot by hand.
Ainsworth Estate is not only an award-winning winery known for its stunning Shiraz, but also an outstanding place to stay for a few nights in a gorgeous rustic setting – their beautiful, architecturally designed vineyard apartments offer weary travellers a place to relax, recuperate and recline in boutique style.
Renowned champagne house Moët et Chandon set up Domaine Chandon in 1986, a vineyard solely dedicated to producing classic sparkling wines as well as cool-climate still wines of exceptional quality. With its famous Greenpoint Brasserie tours and tasting experiences, Domaine has something to offer even the most dedicated wine connoisseur.
No visit to the Yarra Valley, however, is complete without a trip to the vineyard of perhaps the oldest continuous working winemakers in the region – Dominique Portet. Dominique is the ninth generation of his family to be devoted to the art of the vine, and his distinctive emblem, which is a nod to his Moorish ancestry, can be seen on their unique rosé, Sauvignon Blanc and Shiraz offerings
Long Gulley Estate is one of several smaller, boutique wineries in the area. Although smaller in stature, they still pack a big punch, having won several international awards over the years. Dividing their range by price from Reserve to Premium and Cheery Giant, Long Gulley have established a firm and loyal client base in Australia, and also currently export to Switzerland, Singapore and China.
“Wine is one of the most civilised things in the world and one of the most natural things of the world that has been brought to the greatest perfection, and it offers a greater range for enjoyment and appreciation than, possibly, any other purely sensory thing.” - Ernest Hemingway
Wine is culture poured into a glass. To those that love it, it isn’t so much a drink as a gift to the senses. As the end result of centuries of alterations, adjustments and refinements, it offers drinkers indescribable pleasure, both in finding it and in consuming it.
Wine might not be for everyone, but the experience of touring around the spectacular countryside and being able to try any number of world-class wines (not to mention the food!) is something that everyone can appreciate, if not just for the fresh air and friendly folk.
